short bio
Daniel Martinez is a composer, producer and DJ working between Los Angeles, New York and London. He grew up on rock records, spent years in bands as a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, then moved into music production and DJing.
Danyboy is where all of it lands. Most tracks start as a live session with no structure; instruments in a room, tape running, shape found afterwards. Flows across genres, Americana to electronic. The inspiration as often from something that isn't music at all. Played by hand, built with machines.
long bio
Danyboy is where all of it lands.
Daniel Martinez started at a conservatory at the age of 8, studying classical piano, and left it for rock as soon as he could. By his teens he was in bands with friends in Spain. The one that stuck was Solo Dios Lo Sabe: ten years, several demos, contests won, festival stages shared with bands several sizes larger. Sadly, it all ended right before signing with a music label.
He became a resident DJ at a club in his hometown. Hired for taste rather than technique, he played what nobody was asking for, remixed it himself, and brought singers on to perform over the sets. A weird alignment of planets put him on a lineup alongside Bob Sinclair marking the peak of his career as a professional DJ.
In parallel, he was learning to build tracks alone. The Chemical Brothers' Exit Planet Dust teaches him that one person with a sampler could get somewhere real. There was a duo, Cut and Paste, with a radio DJ — a couple of singles on local radio, some large rooms, then the usual entropy. Years of bedroom production nobody heard, archived on CDs, made in an era before releasing anything was simple.
London, early 2010s, restarted it. He fell in with other musicians and founded The Rabas & The Papas — pop, folk, classic rock, an EP recorded and produced in his bedroom, a run of small London gigs and a real audience.
The releases as Danyboy begin in 2014 with The Treasure Chest. Since then: Far Away with Yona Marie, still his most-played; From the Porch, an entire EP cut in one take on an iPhone; Comanche, Astral Divinity, The Traveller, lovebirds, until I can't. Americana to electronic and back, sometimes inside the same release.
Most tracks start as a live session with no structure — instruments in a room, tape running, shape found afterwards. The inspiration as often from something that isn't music at all.
He now works in Los Angeles, finishing a debut LP built on collaborations with artists from around the globe — a model borrowed openly from Damon Albarn, whose work has shaped his idea of what a record can be. The first single from it, children of the night, with In.Drip. and Mr.Goodbarz, arrives September 2026.
Played by hand, built with machines.
